Local access will be maintained at all times during construction. The Project Location Map with Detour Route can be viewed here. April 21, 2017 Status Update: All major construction items have been completed and Livingston Street is now open to traffic.
County Bridge H0802 carries Livingston Street over Vosseller Brook in the Borough of Bound Brook, approximately mid-block between West Franklin Street and West Union Avenue (State Route 28). The existing bridge is a single span concrete structure with embedded steel stringers, supported on concrete substructures. Concrete parapets are present on both sides of bridge. Structure last inspected in 2014. Superstructure is in “poor” condition due to advanced rusting of stringers and spalled concrete. The substructure is also in poor condition due to cracking and spalling of the concrete. Date of the existing bridge’s construction was 1911.
Somerset County is proposing to replace the bridge with a precast concrete box culvert with concrete wing-walls and parapets. The project includes minor drainage work just north of the bridge. The roadway width will remain the same as the existing structure. As part of the bridge replacement, an underground water line is to be reconstructed by NJAW.
Full roadway closure of Livingston Street will be necessary for the bridge replacement. A detour utilizing Winsor Street will be posted during construction. Because the replacement is scheduled to take place during the winter months, the construction time is expected to take approximately 3 months.
