Disaster Response Crisis Counselor Certification: Start Date

Several Dates Below

  • Date: 09/15/2020 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Location: Virtual

The need for certifying crisis response workers became apparent in the aftermath of 9/11, when the New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) operated its largest FEMA-funded disaster response program in its history. One of the principle lessons learned was the critical need for an organized, well- trained and credentialed disaster behavioral health workforce. In order to promote a standard set of training experiences for counselors, DMHAS developed a process to credential behavioral health responders and continues to encourage anyone who is interested in participating in the disaster response process to obtain this DRCC credential. This credentialing process will help to ensure the provision of a coordinated and integrated response and a competent workforce at times of disaster.
