Emergency Management

Position Summary

The Emergency Operations Center Associate performs clerical and administrative duties within the Somerset County Emergency Operations Center (SCEOC). Provides quality services in a respectful and professional manner under emergent and stressful circumstances. 

Essential Functions

  1. Responsible for recording all messages that have been received or sent from the Emergency Operations Center.
  2. Responsible for documenting significant information reported to the EOC on the whiteboard or forms as well as within our State system.
  3. Incumbent will act as a scribe for the Emergency Operations Center.
  4. Incumbent will be required to take on assigned special tasks requested by the EOC Manager or the EOC Manager’s Assistant. 
  5. Responsible for maintaining documents and messages received by radio, email, telephone or fax in the permanent storage file.
  6. Responsible for providing information, as directed, to employees and general public.
  7. Ensures expedited flow of emergency information between all components of the EOC and other private and governmental agencies.
  8. Incumbent may be responsible for transporting resources and information to and from the Emergency Operations Center.
  9. Under direction of the EOC Manager, the incumbent may be responsible for providing support to FEMA representatives. 
  10. Works independently on projects assigned by the OEM Director or designee. 

Essential Qualifications 

  • The incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of modern office practice and procedures, ability to exercise initiative and solid judgement, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, other agencies and employees.
  • The incumbent must possess IS-700 NIMS and ICS-100 certificates.
