Position Summary

The Billing Specialist prepares and maintains the financial records of the Center’s clients related to services rendered. The incumbent performs related financial tasks including preparing and maintaining client insurance records, filing insurance claims and manages accounts receivables. Delivery of all services is trauma-informed, wellness and recovery oriented, and person-centered in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values Statement of the Center.

Essential Functions 

  • Approving claims in EHR
  • Entering approved claim data into NJMHAPP.
  • Entering insurance and self-pay payments into EHR
  • Submitting hard copy claims monthly as needed and working on denied claims for third party payers.
  • Processing Medicaid secondary claims and processing Medicare/Medicaid denied claims.
  • Entering prospective Medicaid clients into Presumptive Eligibility system.
  • Entering billing information during intake process and Process claim appeals as needed.
  • Running reports as required, reviewing accuracy of charges.
  • Retrieve daily cash from deposit box and reconcile and prepare daily deposit.
  • Provides coverage to front desk reception as needed and performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management. 

Essential Qualifications

  • Associate degree in accounting or 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge of medical billing
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Knowledge of the electronic health records system
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
