Marketing/Communications 

Summary

The Social Media Specialist will create, proofread, plan, and organize social media campaigns in a professional, strategic fashion, working cooperatively with employees and stakeholders throughout Somerset County. The Social Media Specialist will be expected to travel throughout the County to collect, interview, prepare visually engaging and informative content, and may be assigned to work some evenings and weekends.

Job Responsibilities 

  1. Planning, developing, initiating social media campaigns across myriad platforms including but not limited to: Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, YouTube, more.
  2. Crafting, proofreading utilizing AP Stylebook rules, and collecting approvals for compelling, visually engaging content.
  3. Being present at events, sometimes outside of normal work hours including evenings and weekends, to take photographs or short videos as assigned; ability to operate a DSLR camera
  4. Engaging with customers professionally and accurately across different channels.
  5. Monitor and analyze campaigns, evening and weekend work necessary during certain campaign cycles.
  6. Staying on top of the latest social media trends.
  7. Works closely with the Graphics department to maintain branding and image standards.
  8. Assists with special projects as assigned by the manager.
  9. Proactively communicates with team members and colleagues throughout the County on the status of projects.

Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, digital marketing, internet marketing, or related field.
  • Knowledge of best practices for social media platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior experience as a copywriter and content manager.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work within a cooperative team environment.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with the Adobe Creative Cloud and / or Canva design software.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master’s degree in marketing, digital marketing, internet marketing, or related field
  • Experience working in government
