Vehicle Maintenance 

Position Summary

The Parts Specialist maintains parts and inventory and orders parts and supplies for the Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Division as well as other County divisions. The position purchases and issues parts to Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance personnel engaged in maintenance and repair of County and Co-Op vehicles and equipment.  

Essential Functions

  1. Possesses a positive work attitude and spirit of cooperation and teamwork amongst supervisors and coworkers to promote a healthy work environment.
  2. Receives, sorts, and inventories parts for easy access and retrieval.
  3. Distributes parts and supplies to mechanics as needed.
  4. Organizes and maintains accurate inventory records via computer as well as on work orders for inventory control of changing stock.
  5. Purchases and maintains shop safety and emergency items.
  6. Operates forklift.
  7. Drives vehicles.
  8. Performs related work as required.
  9. Reports for overtime and emergencies (is on call 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days per year).
  10. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Works.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Vehicle Maintenance.

Essential Qualifications 

  1. High School diploma or equivalent with supplemental courses in the automotive and equipment parts related field.
  2. On-going certification in all required areas of automotive parts.
  3. Valid driver’s license with CDL/ Class B with air brake endorsement.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other Divisions.
  5. Considerable knowledge of automobiles, trucks, and equipment.
  6. Ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications 

  1. Knowledge of motor pool vehicle operations.
  2. Knowledge of general and preventive maintenance procedures for vehicles and related equipment.
  3. Thorough knowledge of basic motor pool safety as well as vehicle safety equipment and its operation.
