Somerset County Commissioners Reorganize for 2019

The Board of County Commissioners' annual reorganization meeting was held in the Historic Courthouse on Jan. 4. Brian D. Levine of Franklin was named director of the board for 2019 and was sworn in by former Gov. Thomas Kean. Serving as deputy director this year will be Patricia L. Walsh of Green Brook. Former Franklin Township deputy mayor Shanel Y. Robinson and former Somerset Hills School District board of education member Sara Sooy of Bernardsville were sworn in to their first three-year terms by Gov. Phil Murphy.
Wreaths Across America in Somerset County

The Wreaths Across America convoy stopped in Montgomery Township on its way from Maine to Arlington National Cemetery. The county Veterans Services Office was honored to be presented with a wreath, which Commissioner Walsh and Sheriff Provenzano placed at the Veterans Memorial Plaza in Somerville on Dec. 13, 2018.
Somerset County & Borough Officials Dedicate Monument at Former Washington School Site in Raritan

The Somerset County Board of County Commissioners marked the transfer of the former Washington School property on First Avenue to the Borough of Raritan during a brief ceremony on Sept. 24, 2018. The Commissioner Board and Raritan officials also formally dedicated a monument on the property, created using bricks, a cornerstone and ornamental windows from the former school building.
Commissioners Announce Electric Vehicle Initiative

Somerset County is poised to become a New Jersey leader in the use of electric vehicles. Commissioner Director Patrick Scaglione and Commissioner Mark Caliguire announced the initiative on Sept. 19 in front of the county courthouse in Somerville, with a Chevy Bolt electric vehicle and charging station as backdrops. Somerset County’s goal is to become a leader in advancing electric vehicles in the same way it was a leader when it purchased hybrid cars for its fleet starting in 2004.

Somerset County, New Jersey, lost 39 residents in the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001. They were the husbands, wives, sons, daughters, sisters, brothers and parents of many of our friends and neighbors. We gather each year at the Memorial Clock Tower in Somerville to honor their memory.
