Karen E. Carroll
Franklin Township (Democrat)

“Get Involved. The world is run by those who show up,” has been Karen Carroll’s motto for most of her adult life.
She began “showing up” as a member of the local League of Women Voters serving in a number of positions, including President of the Bridgewater-Branchburg chapter and then moving on to serve on the state level as Public Relations Director for the League of Women Voters of NJ and a Trustee for the League of Women Voters NJ Education Fund. During that time she also served as the Public Relations Director for the Women’s Vote Project in New Jersey.

In the 1980s Karen founded WIN (Women In Network) of Somerset County to encourage the County Commissioners to establish the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women. This commission allowed for the availability of state funding for Domestic Violence Programs and the Rape Crisis Center in the county.

In the 1990s Karen served as President of the Bridgewater Democratic Club and as a board member for Somerset Family Planning. She was a Regional Vice Chair for the Somerset County Democratic Committee, President of Women’s Health and Counseling Center in Somerville, a board member for the Home Sharing Program and an ongoing volunteer for the Somerset County Food Bank.

Karen has been a long-time Somerset County Democratic Committeewoman, serving both in Bridgewater and Bound Brook. She is currently the Bound Brook Democratic Municipal Chair.

Karen worked for the Heritage Trail in 2001 and ran the restoration project for the historic Van Horne House in Bridgewater. She later served as VP for Historic Restoration for Precision Building and Construction, working on public and private restoration projects throughout Central Jersey. She is currently self-employed as an Independent Agricultural Crop Insurance Adjuster.

Karen received her A.A. Degree from Raritan Valley Community College in 1982, and a B.A. in Liberal Studies from Rider University in Lawrenceville in 1988.
