How to Apply to Vote by Mail
As of October 24, 2024 we strongly recommend that all new mail-in ballot requests for the 2024 General Election be brought in person to the Clerk's Office at 20 Grove Street, Somerville, NJ 08876. You can download and print the application [English] [Spanish] or obtain one from the Clerk.
Those who have not yet received, misplaced, or spoiled their ballot may request a replacement ballot online.
Voting by Mail is an easy and efficient way to cast your vote if you are unable to vote at your polling location. Voters submit an application in order to Vote By Mail. Please refer to the table below to determine which application to complete or request an application be mailed to you.

A civilian voter registered to vote in Somerset County |
Mail-In Ballot Application (English)
Solicitud de Boleta Para Votar por Correo (Spanish) Registered voters may complete an application and submit it to this office either by mail or in person. To receive a ballot by mail, applications must be received in this office no later than 7 days prior to the election for which it is being requested. Voters may apply in person or via authorized messenger up until 3:00 P.M. the day before the election. Voters applying in person will receive their ballot by hand upon submitting the application. To obtain a ballot for someone else, be sure that you and the voter both complete section 11 of the application to become an Authorized Messenger. |
A civilian voter residing overseas |
You may apply for a Mail-In Ballot for federal elections if you are a voter who is living outside of the United States temporarily or permanently and who was residing in New Jersey immediately prior to departure. In order to receive an application, the civilian overseas voter does not have to be a registered voter, but must have met the qualifications to register and vote in New Jersey prior to leaving the United States. The overseas civilian voter is entitled to a ballot whether or not the voter ever intends to return to the United States to reside. |
A military voter residing within the United States |
Mail-In Ballot Application (English) You may apply for a Mail-In Ballot if you are New Jersey resident who is a member of the Uniformed Services, Merchant Marine, Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. “Uniformed Services” include members of the United States Armed Forces (Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. Family members of a military voter are also entitled to vote by mail. If you are a Military voter currently residing within the United States, please complete a Mail-In Ballot Application and mark the appropriate choice in the Special Status box on the application. |

Opt-Out Form If you wish to stop receiving ballots for All Future Elections you may opt-out at any time. Please be aware that if you opt-out during an active election period your request won't be implemented until after that election. |
