The credentialing program is designed to follow the NIMS directive to identify first responders and verify their training certifications.  All responders will be credentialed according to the tasks that they perform within the various disciplines.  Every task will have established training requirements that must be completed and verified prior to receiving credentials.  The training requirements will be established by a Qualifications Review Board operating within each discipline.  Each Board will operate under the direction of the County Emergency Management Coordinator and will be comprised of trained, experienced, and active members of each discipline.  The purpose of each Board is to promote training and experience of emergency responders to help insure a qualified, shareable, and effective incident workforce.  Each Board will establish the minimum individual qualifications necessary for each first responder to be credentialed in his or her task within a particular discipline. The membership of each Board may be found by using the color box links below.

The goal of the program is to credential all first responders in Somerset County, whether they serve on a county agency or a municipal agency.  Personnel from the disciplines of firefighting, law enforcement, emergency medical service, emergency management and search and rescue can be credentialed. Disciplines of public health, public works, hazmat, incident command, and others will be included in the program soon.  The program will be managed by Somerset County through the municipal offices of emergency management.

First responders who are issued credentials must bear in mind that such credentials are NOT authority to self-deploy to any emergency scene.  The credentials are to be used when your agency is officially requested to respond to an emergency scene.
