The Somerset County EMS Coordinators is a group comprised of highly trained volunteers with extensive experience in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Emergency Management. 

During incidents requiring significant EMS resources, it is the mission of the EMS Coordinators to assist in fulfilling EMS Resource Requests, while ensuring that sufficient EMS resources remain available to the Somerset County population.  The local EMS Authority having jurisdiction will always lead the on-scene EMS efforts while the EMS Coordinators will coordinate EMS related resource requests or sever in a role assigned by the local EMS authority.

Examples of the type of incidents that the Somerset County EMS Coordinators will be involved in the response to include:

• Mass Casualty Incident
• Structure Fires
• Evacuation of a Healthcare Facility/Nursing Home
• Active shooter

In addition to responding to emergency incidents, the EMS Coordinators are available to assist local EMS Agencies with pre-plans for large scale incidents, as well as planning EMS Coverage for high attendance events.

The Somerset County EMS Coordinators represent Somerset County EMS Agencies on several committees/groups:

• County Working Group
• County Emergency Planning Committee
• County Emergency Operations Center
• State Emergency Operations Center
• NJ Healthcare Coalition
• State of NJ County EMS Coordinators

Lastly, the Somerset County EMS Coordinators operate a fleet of specialized vehicles, including a six wheel drive off road ambulance and specialized trailer for EMS Operations and/or staging of resources.
