“Operation Secure Shred” events are free of charge for Somerset County residents; pre-registration is not required. Proof of residency is required (current driver's license, valid lease, tax bill or any other bill with a Somerset County address). No businesses allowed. No commercial vehicles allowed.
Shredding events are held rain or shine, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., or until the trucks are filled to capacity, at which time they leave and the event is over for the day. Residents can bring a combination of up to six bags, containers or boxes per trip.
The following recyclable items are not accepted: junk mail, magazines and newspapers.

Residents from all 21 Somerset County municipalities can have personal documents shredded at as many free, on-site mobile paper-shredding events as they wish to attend. Residents do not have to reside in the town hosting an event to participate.
Documents are commercially shredded safely, privately, and properly by trained, licensed, and bonded document destruction specialists. Staples and paperclips do not have to be removed. Residents can bring documents in up to six boxes, containers, or bags per visit and may stay and watch as their documents are shredded. Residents will be asked to take back their receptacles.

- Responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring of solid waste disposal methods for the county.
- Conducts periodic Household Hazardous Waste disposal programs.
- Coordinates the Adopt-A-Road and Backyard Composting Programs for Somerset County.
- Recycling Coordinator establishes prices through quoting of commodities in the various markets. Designs and implements special recycling programs throughout the county. Assists municipal recycling coordinators in program operations.
Somerset County to Hold Free Document Shredding Event on November 16

Residents can now drop-off canned food and non-perishable items at the free Operation Secure Shred event.
BRIDGEWATER, NJ – In an effort to help reduce food insecurity in Somerset County, residents can now drop-off canned food and non-perishable items at the free Operation Secure Shred event on November 16.
The shredding event takes place at the Somerset County Public Works Garage, North County Facility, at 411 Chimney Rock Road, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until the trucks are filled. The event will occur rain or shine.
Drop-Off Guidelines
Residents should be prepared to unload food donations, and items to be shredded from their vehicles. Staff will be available to assist them if necessary.
Proof of Residency
Residents must be prepared to present a current driver's license, valid lease, tax bill or another proof of Somerset County residency. Pre-registration is not required. Businesses and commercial vehicles are NOT allowed.
Attend Any Shredding Event
Residents from all 21 Somerset County municipalities can attend as many shredding events as they like and can participate even if they do not reside in the towns that are holding the events. To view a list of dates and locations for shredding events, visit www.co.somerset.nj.us/shredding.
