Mpox is a disease caused by infection with the mpox virus, which is part of the same family of viruses that cause smallpox. The virus can cause flu-like symptoms, swollen lymph nodes, muscle aches, and a rash that may be located on hands, feet, chest, face, or mouth, or near genitals. If you have symptoms of mpox, contact your doctor immediately.

Mpox Vaccine
The Jynneos vaccine is a 2-dose vaccine developed to protect against mpox and smallpox infections. Individuals should receive both doses of the vaccine for the best protection against mpox. The second dose should be given 4 weeks after the first dose.
CDC recommends individuals should get the vaccine if you:
- Are a gay, bisexual, or other same-gender loving man who has sex with men or are transgender, gender non-binary, or gender-diverse.
- Have had sexual or intimate contact with someone who have mpox. Get vaccinated as soon as possible after exposure, regardless of your sexual or gender identity.
And if you, in the last 6 months, have had or expect to have:
- One or more sexually transmitted infections
- A weakened immune system because of another illness, like HIV
- Sexual or intimate contact with a person who is at risk for mpox
- Anonymous sexual or intimate contact, or more than one sexual partner
