Project Description
The purpose of this project is to provide vehicle and pedestrian safety improvements to the signalized intersection of Easton Avenue (CR 527) and DeMott Lane in Franklin Township, as well as to the shared-use path located on the west side of Easton Avenue between Willow Avenue and the Easton Avenue Jughandle (Taco Bell Driveway).
Somerset County received a Federal Aid grant for the design and construction of this project through the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority’s (NJTPA) Local Safety Program. This project is being advanced by Somerset County, as the Project Sponsor, with agency oversight from NJTPA, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), in accordance with Federal National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), and in compliance with the NJTPA’s Local Safety Program. The goal of this project is to improve safety at this intersection for all roadway users, including motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists.
This project will include the reconstruction of the traffic signal equipment, curb, sidewalk, pavement, and median barrier in the vicinity of the intersection. Additionally, the existing multi- use path along southbound Easton Avenue will be reconstructed from Willow Road to the Easton Avenue jughandle/Taco Bell Driveway. The project is currently in the design phase and will be funded for construction with FHWA's Highway Safety Improvement Program Funds.
